Message From The King

Message from the King is a 2016 revenge-action-thriller film directed by Fabrice Du Welz, and written by Stephen Cornwell and Oliver Butcher. The film is produced by Cornwell, David Lancaster and Simon Cornwell and stars Chadwick Boseman, Luke Evans, Teresa Palmer, and Alfred Molina. The film's plot revolves around Jacob King (Boseman), a man from Cape Town, South Africa who travels to Los Angeles in order to find his younger sister and after finding out she is dead, he works to avenge her death.

Message from the King

The film premiered at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival on September 8, 2016.[5] It received mixed reviews from critics, with praise directed at Boseman's performance and criticism aimed at the script and the overall pacing. Netflix released the film on August 4, 2017.[6]

Jacob King, who lives in Cape Town receives a message from his estranged sister Bianca, who lives in Los Angeles with her husband and stepson, that she is in trouble and has something "they" want. King flies to Los Angeles with a return ticket dated seven days later, intent on finding his sister and booking cheap lodging. Upon arriving at his sister's address, he meets a neighbor who held some of Bianca's belongings, given to her shortly before Bianca disappeared. The neighbor also informs King that his sister's husband had disappeared earlier, leaving his son with Bianca.

Among Bianca's belongings, King finds several photographs of her with various men, including the gang member who had paid her rent but denied knowing her, a dentist's business card, and a pack of cigarettes. King confronts Zico and mutilates his face, telling him to relate to his superior, Duke, that this is "a message from the King", and then steals Zico's phone. At a party held by Bianca's neighbor Trish, King learns that Bianca had been associated with the gang and a drug dealer, named Frankie. He lures Bianca's dealer Frankie to the party and beats him for information, then steals his phone.

King goes to the dentist under the guise of a referral from his sister and he meets the connected Dr. Wentworth, who says that Bianca was being pimped out to pay her husband's debts and that she often disappeared. After the meeting, it is revealed that she was involved with a politician running for office, Frank Leary, who gives Wentworth the contact details for two hitmen to make the problem disappear.

Later that day, the hitmen, two LAPD officers, arrest King. King, realizing he is going to be killed, manages to escape, taking a beating in the process. His motel neighbor, Kelly, the prostitute who had lent King her car, finds him near the motel and nurses him back to health in her room.

The gang realizes that Kelly's car was not stolen. King recovers from his beating, creates a bomb out of materials from a hardware store, and plants the bomb in a bag with money and the drugs he took from Frankie. King finds an encrypted SD card in Bianca's belongings, hidden in a pack of cigarettes. Realizing this is what her killers wanted, he is only able to listen to snippets of audio but understands that Preston is the target. He sneaks into Preston's home and forces him to decrypt the file, which reveals camera footage of Preston committing acts of pedophilia on Armand during a party. The footage also reveals Leary engaging in sex acts with Bianca during an orgy.

King drops Kelly and her daughter at the bus stop where she will return to her home town in New Mexico. He hands her a bag which has money he took from Preston's mansion earlier. As he is walking away, Leary's posters can be seen on the walls of the city of Los Angeles. King returns to South Africa where he is welcomed back and is revealed to be a detective with the local police force.

In November 2014, it was announced that Chadwick Boseman's next film would be Message from The King, portraying Jacob King, a South African man avenging the death of his sister in Los Angeles.[7] Principal photography began in February 2015 in Los Angeles, California. In March 2015, it was announced that Natalie Martinez joined as Trish, the former neighbor of Bianca's.[8]

He plays Jacob King, a man of mystery lured from his native South Africa to LA thanks to a frantic phone message from his sister. Bianca is beautiful, married and must have moved there with dreams of screen stardom. But her phone call was alarming.

However, following America's success, the king becomes rather irritated and upset, claiming that America cheated on England with France and that he is now fighting with France and with Spain, referring to the Anglo-French War and Anglo-Spanish War respectively. ("What Comes Next?").

Once George Washington steps down, King George learns of this and questions who might replace him. A soldier brings news that John Adams, will be Washington's replacement, and the king recalls having met him years ago in 1785, believing him to be a "little guy" that the Americans will eat alive. Musingly anticipating Adams' presidency, King George III wishes him luck ("I Know Him").

While no formal announcement seems to have been made yet, it looks like Netflix has picked up a film starring Chadwick Boseman titled Message from the King, which revolves around a South African man (Boseman) who arrives in Los Angeles looking for his missing younger sister.

This week on Black on Black Cinema, the crew is back with a special guest to discuss the 2016 action thriller, "Message from the King" starring Chadwick Boseman. The film tells the story of a man who comes from South Africa to find out why his sister left him a message asking for his help in Los Angeles. After discovering her death, Jacob King (Boseman) goes on a tour of vengeance against the people who he believes had something to do with her death. However, he might have found a larger conspiracy that goes beyond her sister.

King is as capable and clueless as the script calls for at any given moment. Butcher and Cornwell constantly cut King off at the knees by making his fighting intelligence so inconsistent. One scene has him disarming four armed guys with a bicycle chain and the next he struggles to stop one guy. They toss in a slight twist at the end to provide some clarification, but it makes earlier scenes all the more problematic.

Chadwick Boseman has just six days to avenge his sister's murder in the first trailer for Message From the King. The film stars Boseman as Jacob King, a man who travels to Los Angeles from South Africa after getting a distress message from his sister, only to soon find her dead. He then has limited time to go on a mission to find out who killed her and to get his revenge.

The trailer begins with Jacob getting the distress call from Bianca, causing him to rush to Los Angeles. HIs arrival causes trouble for the men responsible for Bianca's murder. "You told me Bianca was not a problem anymore," one of the men says. "Bianca isn't a problem anymore, that's his problem," the other responds.

Jacob soon finds his sister, realizing that she has been tortured. He quickly sets out to find her assailant, and he is willing to result to extreme measures in order to do so. "Whoever you work for, tell them this was a message from the king," Jacob says to a man who he just beat up. "He's not going to go away," says a voiceover. "He's not going to screw up. We have to deal with him."

Jacob seems single-minded in his goal to avenge his sister, despite questions from those around him about what his revenge plot can do for her now. "We have no idea what he's capable of," Luke Evans' Wentworth cautions, before the trailer begins to go through an action montage showing off what, exactly, Jacob is capable of.

Teresa Palmer, Alfred Molina, Natalie Martinez, Tom Felton, and Sibongile Mlambo also star in Message From the King, which is directed by Fabrice Du Welz (Colt 45) based on a script from Oliver Butcher (Dr. Jekyll and Ms. Hyde) and Stephen Cornwell, an Emmy nominee for The Night Manager. The film will hit Netflix on August 4; in the meantime, see some of the other movies that will blow you away this summer.
